Each season the South Shore Mustangs Major Midget Hockey Club recruits talented players who live outside the local area. In order for them take advantage of this hockey opportunity, the players need host families who are willing to share their home and become their “home away from home”.   The Mustangs ‘Billet Family’ Program plays a major role in our team's success both on and off the ice.  It takes special people to open their homes and hearts to our players to provide the utmost care to ensure our players are placed in environments that are conducive to care, understanding and safety.

The Mustangs are unique in that they are the only team in the Nova Scotia Eastlink Major Midget Hockey League that requires billet families year after year.  Billet families make this transition easier by welcoming players into their homes for the first semester of school (September – end of January).  At the end of January, billeted players return home for the rest of the hockey season and travel back and forth to Bridgewater for practices/games until the end of the season.

Our goals in operating this area’s Major Midget franchise in the Nova Scotia Eastlink Major Midget Hockey League, is to develop young hockey players with future hockey and educational ambitions.  Our organization is instrumental in developing the opportunities for our graduating players to play QMJHL Major Junior, Canadian or American Junior A and Prep School hockey.  Our hockey program also fosters the development of young hockey players on and off the ice.  We focus on manufacturing hockey players and young people who become leaders in their schools and communities through these great hockey experiences.  The billeting program plays a huge part in this great experience.  A willingness to help a player pursue his ambitions by providing a "home away from home" is what is needed most.  By sharing your home and time a billet family will build a lasting relationship with the player, organization, and community.  These are great kids and the Mustangs organization is very selective of the players that make their roster.  All possess a high degree of character, commitment, respect and integrity.

Billets Families will receive weekly compensation along with 2 season tickets.
