2012-10-18

South Shore Mustangs traveled to The Cole Harbour place on Wed night to face off against the Cole Harbour Pro hockey Life WolfPack.

On Wednesday night the South Shore Mustangs traveled to The Cole Harbour place to face off against the Cole Harbour Pro hockey Life WolfPack.  The game started out at a faced pace as the Mustangs dominated on their offensive zone coverage, winning almost every battle down low. As a result the Mustangs were rewarded with a power play. Just 8 seconds into the power play, Christian Tufts banged away a goal in front of the net to lift the Mustangs to a one goal lead. This lead was short lived as the Mustangs dropped assignment in their defensive zone, leading to a 1 minute and 15second period which had the Mustangs down 3-2. The Mustangs not feeling defeated, jumped back on their offensive zone dominance as the potted another power play goal scored by Alex Nauss (assists to Joel Cleveland, and Riley Strowbridge ‘C’).

The second period was again a back and forth period with high paced intensity seeing the Mustangs newest player, MacKenzie Woodman score again with 3:02 left on the clock the take the 4-3 lead going into the 3rd period.

The lead was short lived though as the WolfPack battled back on their own power play to tie the game at 4-4. Still not admitting defeat the mustangs rallied back on goals by Jamie Arsenault and Alex Nauss to take the 6-4 lead with 9:46 left in the game. With 2 minutes on the clock all looked well as it finally seemed as if the Mustangs were about to pull off a hard battled win until a defensive zone break down. With 1:00 left on the clock a WolfPack player stepped out from the corner and slid the puck in the back of the net. The Mustangs were deflated, allowing another goal with 0:12 remaining in the game to force Overtime.

Unable to bounce back from the sudden boost from the Wolfpack the Mustangs were yet again caught scrambling in their own end of the ice and the Wolfpack scored on a scramble in front of the net to end the game. Shots on goal were 43-27 for the Mustangs, with Cole Skinner taking the loss for the Mustangs, and Rowan O’Brien getting the win for the WolfPack. The Mustangs battled hard and but things just haven’t been going their way. They look to change their winless ways this weekend as they travel to Pictou for a Saturday and Sunday matchup
