Boyce Steps down. Johnston hired as new bench boss

BRIDGEWATER, NS, March 6, 2012 - The South Shore Canadian Tire Mustangs will have a new face behind the bench next year. Head Coach Tim Boyce stepped down two weeks ago due to travel committments involved with coaching the major midget team.
BRIDGEWATER, NS, March 6, 2012 - The South Shore Canadian Tire Mustangs will have a new face behind the bench next year. Head Coach Tim Boyce stepped down two weeks ago due to travel committments involved with coaching the major midget team. The Mustangs have turned to assistant coach Grant Johnston to lead the team during the 2012-13 season.
Boyce a resident of Halifax has been making the one hour commute to Bridgewater for practices and games for the last two years.
“My concern for the safety of the highway was the number one reason in my decision. It’s a single lane highway and when you are travelling it three or four nights a week it starts to weigh on you heavily. I really loved my time with the club, but at the end of the day safety for me and my family comes first.”
Johnston served as the teams assistant coach during the 2011-12 season. Originally from Canning, NS Johnston is a resident of Bridgewater and teaches at the Bluenose Academy in Lunenburg, NS. Johnston states he is looking forward to the challenge.
“We had a great season this year and I am looking forward to putting my own stamp on the team while continuing to build on the positives of the 2011-12 season. This coming season will be another exciting year for Mustang hockey.”
The Mustangs finished third in the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League standings this past season but were upset in the playoffs.
The Mustangs are now preparing for their annual Spring ID camp. Information on camp details will be released at www.canadiantiremustangs.com in the coming weeks.
