The South Shore Canadian Tire Mustangs clinched 3rd place in the NSMMHL Sunday with a dominating 13 skater performance and in the process tied a team record for wins in a season with 19.

Going into the game with 4 regulars out of the lineup due to injuries the Mustangs lost defenceman Riley Strowbridge to a 5 minute major boarding call just 1:38 into the game forcing the team to play with 13 skaters.  In a strange twist, Strowbridge was assessed the Major when the linesmen made a call for the hit after the whistle but neither the linesmen or the referee knew what number actually committed the foul.  The team was left to pick a player to serve a suspension.  Long story short, the Mustangs were now down to 4 defenseman.

The call seemed to ignite the Mustangs as not only did they kill off the 5 minute major,  they went on to apply pressure with a relentless forecheck and out shoot Cole Harbor 17-0 in the first 15 minutes of the game and take a 3-0 lead on route to a 6-4 win.

Shaun McEachern had a huge game for the Mustangs scoring 4 times.  Brandon Challoner and Morgan Messenger had 3 assists each. Robert Patterson with a goal and an assist and Connor Hirtle rounded out the goal scoring for the Mustangs.

Cole Skinner stopped 17 of 21 shots for the win.  Skinner was especially sharp in the third when the Mustangs began to tire.  Chase Marchand kept the game close stopping 34 of 39 directed his way.

The Mustangs tied a team record for regular season wins (19) as well as points (41) this year.  As well Captain, Brennan Bailey set a new single season points record for a Mustang defenceman with 37, set a new goals record with 15 this year as well as points over a career with 65.

Corey Peterson set a new single season goals against average for a Mustang goalie with a GAA of 2.56. (Minimum 600 minutes played)

The Mustangs will open playoffs at home this coming Saturday night.  Game time is 8:00pm at the Bridgewater Memorial Arena.  Game 2 goes Sunday morning at 10:30am in Bridgewater
