Mustangs take 3 of 4 pts on weekend

The South Shore Canadian Tire Mustangs made the long trip to Sydney this weekend and came home with 3 of a possible 4 points.

Saturday night the Mustangs were out worked by a much improved Tradesmen squad and lost a close one 4-3 in overtime. 

Scoring for the Mustangs was Josh Shatford, Brennan Bailey and Morgan Messenger.  Cole Skinner stopped 28 of 32 shots in the overtime loss.  Messenger and Bailey each finished with a goal and an assist.

Sunday the Mustangs competed hard for a full 60 minutes despite being short staffed and came out with a 1-0 win behind some solid goaltending from Corey Peterson.  Shaun McEachern scored the loan goal on a powerplay in the 1st period and Peterson stopped 31 shots for the win.  Brandon Challoner had a solid outing creating numerous chances, assisting on the lone goal and blocking 4 shots.  Robert Patterson chipped in with an assist and had a solid weekend on the blue line for the Mustangs.

The Mustangs are looking forward to the week off and getting some bodies back in the lineup as Avery Clarke, Alex Mann, Jamie McIntyre are all currently out with injuries. 

The team will also welcome defenceman Brendan Nickerson back to the lineup after competing and winning a bronze medal in the Youth Olympics in Austria.  Welcome back Brendan!

The Mustangs final regular season home game is this coming Sunday at the Bridgewater Memorial Arena when they take on the Valley Wildcats.  Game time is 10:30am
