Clarke celebrates one of his 4 goals Sunday

The South Shore Canadian Tire Mustangs posted back to back wins over the Cape Breton Tradesmen this weekend.

Saturday night the Mustangs welcomed the Tradesmen to the Bridgewater Memorial Arena.  Despite outshooting their counterparts 38-16, it took two late 3rd period goals to defeat the tradesmen 2-1.

Brandon Challoner tied the game at 7:58 of the third and then Avery Clarke scored the winner at 6:15 of the third.

Patrick Byrne scored in the first period for the Tradesmen.

Corey Peterson got the win in goal stopping 15 of 16 shots while Jordan Latour stopped 36 of 38 shots in taking the loss.

Sunday the Mustangs switched venues to Chester and the goals came early and often.  Avery Clarke and Jamie Blair had monster games for the Stangs.  Clarke scored 4 goals and assisted on one other while Blair scored 2 and assisted on 2 others.  Christian Tufts also potted 2 goals for the home side with Brandon Challoner adding a goal and an assist.  Morgan Messenger, Shaun McEachern and Josh Shatford each chipped in 2 assists a piece.

Corey Peterson recorded the win stopping 36 of 38 shots. “Petey” was especially sharp making some key saves on two separate Tradesmen 5 on 3 powerplays.  Peterson has jumped to 3rd in the league with a goals against average of 2.00.

Quinn McRury made 19 saves on 26 shots before giving way to Jordan Latour who made 5 saves on 7 shots.

With their 12th win, the Mustangs have surpassed their win total of last season and sit 2nd in the NSMMHL with a record of 12-5-1 heading into the break for the Monctonian.

Clarke Player of the Week – Congrats to Avery Clarke on being named Week 8 Player of the Week in the NSMMHL.  Clarke scored 5 goals and 1 assist in two weekend wins and now sits third in the NSMMHL in points and 1st in goals.  Congrats Avery and keep up the good work!

Welcome Back Patterson – The Stangs would like to welcome back last years Unsung Hero award winner, Robert Patterson.  “Pattsy” will be a welcome addition to the blue line and add more depth and physical play to our team. The players and coaching staff are happy to have him back as we move forward.
