Mustangs Sweep Weekend Games, take over 2nd Place

The South Shore Canadian Tire Mustangs took over sole possession of 2^nd place in the NSMMHL this past weekend with a pair of wins over Cole Harbour and Pictou.

Saturday night the Mustangs welcomed the Cole Harbour Wolfpack to the Bridgewater Memorial Arena.  The Mustangs earned a hard fought 3-2 win.  Scoring for the Mustangs was Avery Clarke, Josh Shatford, and Brennan Bailey with the game winner early in the third.

Scoring for Cole Harbour was Ryan Daley and Leon Knockwood.

Corey Peterson got his 4^th straight win in goal stopping 19 of 21 shots.  Jason Ellis was strong in goal for Cole Harbor stopping 33 of 36.

Sunday the Mustangs travelled to Pictou to face the 4^th place Weeks Major Midgets.  With a short bench due to injuries the 13 skaters dressed found a way to pull out a character 6-5 win despite trailing 3-2 after 2 periods of play.

Multiple point games by Morgan Messenger (2 goals, 2 assists), Shaun McEachern (2 goals, 1 assist), Avery Clarke (3 assists), Brennan Bailey (1 goal, 1 assist) and Bronson Benight (2 assists) propelled the Stangs to victory.  Brandon Challoner chipped in with a single marker.

Cole Skinner was solid goal stopping 32 of 37 shots for the win.  Maxxim Feener took the loss stopping 19 of 25 shots.

With the two wins this weekend the Mustangs move into sole possession of 2^nd place in the NSMMHL.

Next weekend the Mustangs will travel to St Margarets Bay to take on the 1^st Place Halifax Taylar Made Security Titans.  Game times at the St Margarets Bay arena are 3:00pm Saturday and 2:30pm Sunday.
