Mustangs go 2-0 in weekend play

Saturday night the Mustangs downed the Cape Breton Tradesmen 6-2.

Scoring for the Mustangs was Shaun McEachern (2 goals, 1 assist), Connor Hirtle (1 goal, 1 assist), Avery Clarke (1 goal, 1 assist), Jamie Blair and Morgan Messenger.

Answering for the Tradesmen was Kelly Yates and Ryan Groom.

Corey Peterson got his first win in goal as a Mustang, stopping 18 of 20 shots.  Rory McQuinn took the loss stopping 16 of 21 shots before being replaced by Jordan Latour who stopped 16 of 17 shots.

Sunday morning the Mustangs took on the Cape Breton West Islanders.

The Mustangs jumped out to an early 3-1 lead after one period on goals by Brennan Bailey, Brandon Challoner and Jacob Westhaver.

In the second the Mustangs added 2 more off the sticks of Morgan Messenger and Jamie Blair.  The Islanders tally came from Tyler MacLeod.

In the third Avery Clarke added another to make the final 6-2 Mustangs.

Riley Strowbridge and Brendan Nickerson each had 2 assists in the win.

Corey Peterson earned his 2nd straight win in goal stopping 17 of 19 while Miguel Sullivan took the loss stopping 35 of 41 shots.

This week the Mustangs travel to Cole Harbour to take on the Wolfpack on Wednesday (7:30pm) before returning home to take on the Valley Wildcats on Sunday October 23rd (10:30am Chester Arena).

With a record of 6-3 the Mustangs currently sit 3rd in the NSMMHL.
