The Canadian Tire Mustangs battled their way to a weekend split by defeating the Pictou Major Midgets 3-2 today in Chester.

Playing the majority of the game with only 13 skaters due to injuries, the Mustangs kept the Pictou squad to perimeter shots for most of the game and relied on Cole Skinners 52 save performance to secure the win.  Skinner was very sharp stopping 22 shots in the third period and rarely giving out a rebound opportunity.

Shaun McEachern paced the home side with two goals and some strong work in the faceoff circle.

Robert Patterson scored the other Mustangs goal while providing the team with some solid defense, finishing the game a +3.

The two teams played a scoreless first period, while McEachern (unassisted) and Daniel Perigo (Unassisted) traded goals in the second to go into the 2nd intermission tied at 1-1.

In the third, the Weeks took the lead when Brandon Duff scored (Assist Shawn Wright) at the 10:50 mark, but the Mustangs got back to even when Patterson (Assist Brandon Challoner) roofed a snap shot by Weeks goalie Matthew MacCallum with 6:00 minutes remaining setting the stage for McEacherns game winning breakaway goal (Assists – Ryan Graves, Jon Hatt) with 2:36 remaining in the game.

Cole Skinner made 52 saves in the win while MacCallum took the loss making 21 saves.

The Mustangs are back in action next Sunday when they travel to Dartmouth to take on the Ice Dawgs.
