The Canadian Tire Mustangs earned a point on Wednesday in Kentville as they lost in a sudden death format shoot-out. The 'Stangs came off an opening weekend split against both Cape Breton teams. Saturday evening the Mustangs came out hard, but quickly lost steam as penalty trouble and some weird bounces allowed the Cape Breton Tradesmen to slip past the Mustangs by a score of 11-3. The score was not indicative of the play, as the Mustangs had many breath-taking chances around the net, but struggled to bury the puck and struggled in the defensive end. The Mustangs rebounded, however, Sunday morning versus the Cape Breton West Islanders, earning 2 points in a shoot out victory. Tyler Quinlan notched the shoot out goal for the win. Billy Clarke lived up to expectations in both matches.

On Wednesday the Mustangs again found themselves in penalty trouble, taking 17 penalties in total throughout the game. the Wildcats scored both their goals on the power play, with their second coming on a two-man advantage. The Mustangs fought back late in the third period, scoring two goals in the last five minutes to even the score. Rookie Braden Mercier scored his first of the year unassisted as he placed a rebound top shelf off of the pad of 6'5" Wildcat netminder Brandon Whitney. Rookie Brandon Challoner notched his third goal of the year under three minutes later to even the score at deuces. The Mustangs dominated the Wildcats at even strength and throughout the Overtime period, but the Valley squad's first shooter managed to score in the shoot-out giving them the sudden death victory. The Mustangs out-shot the Wildcats 36-30.

The Mustang staff are very pleased with the poise and adversity the players showed in all three games, and look forward to taking on the Halifax Taylar Made Security Titans in a home-and-home series this coming weekend. Home game time is 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
