Monctonian Recap

Best Mustang finish at Monctonian in years

The Monctonian this year had overtimes, scoreless defensive efforts, of which the Mustangs posted two and upsets but in the end a final four showing was the end of the road for the boys.

Simply one of the best finishes by a Mustangs team in as many years as team board members could remember and they have been around a long time. For the coaching staff and the players to get to the final four was a great accomplishment. Allowing only 4 goals in 5 games was another feat that did not go unnoticed.

The Mustangs felt they had an opportunity to gain a finals berth but an opportunistic Moncton team on a great deflection got the goal they needed to force the Mustangs, with little time remaining, to open up looking for the equalizer. With a few late great chances the Mustangs couldn't manage to bury the allusive goal they needed to keep the final dream alive.

Highlights from the weekend included the Mustangs coaching staff of Brad Muise, Don Dodman and Armand Steenbeek behind the bench of the QMJHL Prospects game. Walter Flower was the lone Mustang player to be selected to play in the Prospects Game.

The weekend proved that hard work does pay off and we should not forget the team trainer, Tanya Daniels, Physio Kenny Gilfoy who keep the team strong and assist the players as they deal with the grueling pace of the Monctonian and the grind of the travel schedule though a tough November. A strong team both on and off the ice has proven that this Mustangs squad are true road warriors.
